In 2017, Alex Honnold stood before nine hundred metres of granite and completed the first free solo ascent of El Capitan’s Freerider route, without a rope, without a partner, without a second attempt.

The climb took under four hours. The decision took years.

Beyond the height itself was something more personal: the pursuit of a possibility that existed only because someone was willing to reach for it. Most people will never stand on El Capitan.
