On august 7th, 1974, Philippe Petit stepped onto a cable strung between the twin towers, four hundred metres above the street, with no net and no harness. the fear didn't leave before the first step — it walked the whole length of the wire, the entire crossing. what's archived isn't composure. it's the decision to move with the fear still there, the whole way across.

What the archive preserves is not the crossing. It is the moment fear loses its authority: Not because it disappears, but because someone chooses to move anyway.
