Van Gogh painted Almond Blossom during a later stage of his life in confinement, when his work had shifted away from anticipation and toward reflection.

He painted it as a gift for his newborn nephew. A work intended to hang above a bed—seen at the very beginning of life, long before understanding, memory, or meaning is formed.

This is not a painting about waiting for something to arrive. It is about what remains after something has already been understood and passed through.

In his later years, Van Gogh’s work became less about holding emotion and more about releasing it into form—allowing it to exist outside of him, no longer needing to contain it.

We recreated this work as an interpretation of that idea: not devotion to what is coming, but acceptance of what continues after you.
